"To hell with you Prussians!" thinks 
Franz-Josef Strauß as a flying egg splatters all over him. A sticky welcome awaits the Bavarian state premier on 14 September 1979 as he visits Essen to rally conservatives for the CDU election campaign. He also wants to promote his own ambitions for the German chancellorship.
Prussians? Harking back to the old arch-enemy, Bavarians regard anyone who comes from north of the river Main as a "Prussian".
